Neo-Baroque appartment house from 1895-97, built according to a plan by R. Kříženecký in place of two demolished Baroque houses; sculptural decoration is by V. Amort. Writer F. Kafka used to spend part of his youth there. One of the original houses used to belong to a Dutch tanner Engel in the 17th century who was the first to make soles from hard leather in Prague; thanks to this invention he became so rich that he could buy an aristocratic title and mansion Mníšek pod Brdy.
